Week 30: The iLEAP Test Begins This Week

Dear Parents and Students,
There will be NO MAIN SELECTION and NO HOMEWORK this week. We will be preparing for the iLEAP test on Monday and Tuesday, and we will be taking the iLEAP test on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday of this week.

A FEW REMINDERS:
I do want to remind you that a NUTRITIOUS BREAKFAST and sleep are very important during this week. Did you know that good nutrition is important for learning. Research has shown that children who regularly ate breakfast had better standardized test scores, better behavior, and were less hyperactive than children who skipped breakfast. When comparing low glycemic index (GI) breakfasts to high GI breakfasts eaten by 9-12 year old children, research also shows that children who eat high GI breakfasts (sugary breakfasts) tend to eat more at lunch.

Kids ages 6-9 need about 10 hours of sleep a night. Bedtime difficulties can arise at this age from a child's need to private time with parents, without siblings around. Try to make a little private time just before bedtime and use it to share confidences and have small discussions, which will also prepare your child for sleep. Children ages 10-12 need a little over 9 hours of shuteye a night. But it's up to parents to judge the exact amount of rest their children need and see that they're in bed in time for sufficient sleep. Lack of sleep for kids can cause irritable or hyper types of behavior and can also make a condition like ADHD worse.

I really do think that your children will be much better prepared to do well on the iLEAP test if these two things are in place. So, don't forget about getting a nutritious breakfast each morning and getting plenty of sleep each night.
