Week 1: The Wise Old Woman

Dear Parents and Students,
We are starting our journey through the 5th grade with an awesome story entitled The Wise Old Woman. It is one of my favorite tall tales. In this story, a ruler told the town's evil ruler to solve three tasks or he would destroy the village. But before that, the evil ruler had ordered all people age 70 and above to go the mountains except one kind man could not do that to his mother and kept her hidden in his house. When the evil ruler ordered his town's people to do the three tasks for him, the young man asked his mother what to do. Because she had lived so long, the mother was very wise. Thankfully, she was able to solve the tasks for the evil ruler. In the end, the evil ruler realizes the need for older people because of their wisdom.
